The Summit Area is named after the Summit Furniture factory that was built in the area in 1978. Summit Furniture factory was the vision of Chief Philip C. Asiodu who wanted to develop industry in Asaba, Delta State (previously known as Bendel state). The importance of this factory could not be understated at the time, such was its iconic importance that it was commissioned by Vice President of Nigeria, Alexander Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON.
Summit served as a landmark for travellers approaching Asaba from the expressway and very soon the area became recognised as Summit and the main road was identified as Summit road. This name is still recognised by Deltans as the main road into the City.
